New Book Launched!

Sandy Historical Research Group launched their first volume of 'Pictorial Memories of Sandy' to an invited gathering of local groups and societies, with Town Mayor, David Gale and his wife in attendance.

The presentation was started off by group Chairman, Mick Reynolds who gave a presentation speech, outlining the group's mission and its' achievements to date, together with a plea for some space for the provision of a town museum, so that a much larger proportion of the archive material collected in the 5 years of the group's existence.

The Chairman then offered his sincere thanks, to all the members of the committee for their hard work and commitment in bringing the book to fruition, to the citizens of Sandy who had donated much of the historic material to the group and not least to Mayor Gale and  members of the Town Council or their support.

Mayor Gale responded by thanking the group on behalf of the town for retaining the history of Sandy through their archive collection, which might otherwise have been lost and hoped that this would be just the first of many volumes to be published by the group.

It is anticipated that when we publish Volume 2 in the Spring of 2009, we will be able to coincide to launch with the re-opening of Sandy Library at the end of March.

Mick Reynolds then presented a complimentary copy to the Mayor, who accepted it on behalf of the Town Council.

The presentation was closed by Mick, who thanked all who had come along to support the launch of the book, especially former SHRG members Sian & Shaun, who had travelled back from their new home in Lincolnshire in order to be involved in the book launch.

Our thanks go to Sandy Town Library and staff for their kind help and assistance in making the book launch presentation a great success.
